What is polyurethane floor coating?

Polyurethane floor coating is a two-part protective finish applied to concrete floors that cures into a flexible, durable layer resistant to abrasion, chemicals, and moisture.

A polyurethane (PU) floor coating is a synthetic resin system applied to concrete surfaces in a single or multi-layer system. Unlike epoxy coatings, which are rigid, polyurethane finishes retain flexibility after curing, allowing them to move with the substrate without cracking under thermal stress or minor substrate movement. This property makes PU coatings particularly suited to spaces that experience temperature fluctuations or vibration.

Polyurethane coatings offer strong resistance to abrasion, oils, solvents, and mild chemical spills, making them effective for warehouse floors, manufacturing facilities, and automotive service bays. They also provide good UV stability compared to standard epoxy, meaning they resist yellowing and degradation when exposed to sunlight, which is important for semi-outdoor and covered car park applications across the Klang Valley region.

The coating is typically applied in two parts (resin and hardener) that chemically bond to create the finished surface. Application requires proper surface preparation and environmental control (temperature and humidity levels). Once cured, polyurethane floors are easy to clean and maintain, though the flexibility that prevents cracking can sometimes reduce the high-gloss appearance that epoxy delivers.
